Mathematics
Students progress from pre-algebra foundations through Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
Oxford Classical Charter Academy will implement a content-rich classical curriculum aligned with Hillsdale College’s K–12 course of study. It is a structured, cumulative program designed to develop knowledge, intellectual discipline, and moral character from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
In the early years, instruction is focused on building strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, and general knowledge. Students begin with phonics-based literacy, structured writing and spelling, Singapore Math, foundational science, classic children’s literature, poetry, history, geography, art, music, and physical education.
As students advance through the grammar school, the curriculum adds Well-Ordered Language grammar, composition, richer literature, American and world history, increasingly formal science study, roots and language study, and a fuller sequence in the arts. The work is teacher-led, ordered, and cumulative.
As students mature, the curriculum becomes more analytical, more demanding, and more explicitly ordered toward disciplined reasoning and responsible citizenship.
Students progress from pre-algebra foundations through Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
Science advances through conceptual physics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and other advanced science options.
Students encounter classic literature and poetry, then move through ancient, medieval and British, American, and modern literature.
Students study American history, world history, economics, moral and political philosophy, and American government in a clear sequence.
Students enter a formal Latin sequence beginning in the middle grades, with advanced Latin or other foreign language electives later.
Students develop through composition, logic, rhetoric, electives, and a senior thesis demonstrating mastery of the curriculum.
This is not a loose educational philosophy. It is a defined course of study. Knowledge builds year over year. Reading, writing, mathematics, science, history, civics, language, and the arts are taught as connected parts of an ordered whole.
Classroom instruction is teacher-led and serious. Technology is used sparingly and deliberately. The aim is not novelty but mastery, sound judgment, clarity of expression, and readiness for the responsibilities of citizenship.
Oxford Classical Charter Academy is pursuing affiliation with Hillsdale College’s Barney Charter School Initiative. The curriculum is aligned with Hillsdale College’s K–12 course of study. Final implementation remains subject to charter approval and any formal affiliation process.
The school remains a locally founded public charter effort. Hillsdale does not own, operate, or govern the Academy.
